“With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.” 2 Thessalonians 1:11 (NIV)
Sometimes I struggle with remembering that God is actually in control of the universe and that I can trust Him with my life. He proves He is capable of holding my life together in so many ways. He created the earth in the perfect size and shape in order for gravity to hold a thin layer of mostly nitrogen and oxygen gases, so that we can breath. He placed the earth at just
He even created the moon with the perfect size and distance from the Earth for its gravitational pull. This creates important ocean tides and movement so the water remains fresh and clear; and at the same time gravity corrals these massive oceans, so they will never again cover the continents and drown us all.
God also gives us life-sustaining water, which is colorless, odorless and tasteless, but without which, no living thing can survive. Water is a universal solvent. This allows thousands of chemicals, nutrients and minerals to enhance our lives by spreading throughout our body in a labyrinth of 100,000 miles of blood vessels, which could go round the world four times and reach half way to the moon. God even designed water to freeze at the top, so fish can continue to live throughout the winter months.
The human brain calculates more than a million messages a second. We have intelligence, as well as the ability to reason, to exhibit feelings, to dream and plan, to act, and to interact with other people. Our eyes automatically focus and process an amazing 1.5 million messages – at the exact same time. DNA is a three-billion-lettered program training each cell to act in its prescribed fashion.
God designed this entire magical menagerie, which we call “life’ just in order to share His love with us. He also sent His only begotten Son to save us from our sins. Jesus performed so many miracles. He healed the blind, deaf, maimed, and even raised the dead. He had the ability to create food from a few loaves and fishes in order to feed thousands of people. He defied nature by walking on water, silencing a raging storm and returning from the dead. Jesus went about the earth doing good (Acts 10:38) and meeting the needs of everyone He encountered.
Even with all of this information, however, I still get discouraged and overwhelmed when negative circumstances arise and threaten to overpower me. I forget that God has infinite, spiritual insight into my problems, and that I am viewing them from a finite, mortal perspective. Much of life may seem uncertain, but there are actually many laws of nature that we can count on every day: consistent gravity, boiled water always cools, every day has 24 hours, the speed of light never changes -- on earth or in galaxies far from us, “up” is always the opposite of “down”, if you climb a mountain you will definitely see the other side, if you go to sleep at night you will wake up to see another day.
Of course that last point is dependant upon whether or not our numbered days on this earth are over (Psalm 39:4). If they are, we will wake up in eternity. We have a choice while we remain alive, to allow our unbelief to condemn us (John 3:18), or to accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and never die (John 11: 26).
Then, if I completely surrender my agenda for my life to God and prayerfully live every moment guided by His Holy Spirit, I will walk in victory (Galatians 5: 16).
