My
kitchen sink clogged up, and I prayed about what to do. I grabbed my trusty
plunger and furiously went to work on the clog…nothing. I ran hot water in the
sink, thinking that might help to dissolve any clog…nothing.
Then
I heard the Lord say, "Walk away and trust me." I replied, "I
can't do that, I may need to call a plumber." Oh, me of little faith! I
know that sometimes God directs us to call people to help us, and when He does,
it always turns into a divine appointment.
However,
this time, I sensed I was going to take a deeper step of faith. I trust the
Lord implicitly, because He proves Himself to me over and over; but this time I
had a niggling of fear mingled in. Yet, I did walk away, and I read the many Bible
verses about trusting.
I
worked on two devotional blog posts using these verses, and my faith grew with
each word. I did not think about the sink in all of that time. Then, several
hours later, I went to fill my watering can to minister to my "green
growing things" on my plant stand.
Behold…the
sink was unclogged. As I waited on the Lord to answer my prayers for the sink,
and turned to His Word to build up my faith, He provided for that need
supernaturally. Of course at times, He teaches us contentment in our situation
(Philippians 4:11).
The
same thing happened when we were moving from Florida to Illinois. I had no
winter clothes, of course; so I prayed about what to do. I placed my concern in
God's faithful hands and waited. A few days later we went to a thrift store.
God
provided an entire wardrobe for me; from thigh-high socks to an ankle-length,
thick wool cape; as well as thick ankle-length skirts, and an ankle-length
housecoat made from a blanket; along with several long-sleeve shirts that I
could layer.
God
is entirely trust-worthy, and His provision causes our hearts to leap with joy
(Psalm 28:7). The patience required by waiting does its perfect work in our
soul (Romans 8:25; James 1:4-8). He never forsakes those who trust in Him
(Psalm 9:10).
Prayer:
Father
God, when we trust in You, nothing is impossible and everything is probable
(Matthew 17:20). Your scripture locked up the parts of life that are under
sin's control, and opened doors for Your provision for our life (Galatians
3:22). Thank You for keeping safe all of those who take refuge in You,
regardless of our circumstances (Psalm 16:1). Help us to access Your unfailing
love for us by teaching us to put our complete hope in You (Psalm13:5-6,
33:22).
Sarah
was humanly unable to have children; however, she learned the truth of Your
faithfulness, and eventually trusted in Your promise to her (Hebrews 11:11). As
we delight in You and enjoy Your continual presence within us, You give us firm
ground to walk on in this shaky world, and You include us in Your confidences
(Psalm 37:23; Proverbs 3:31-32).
Thought
for the Day:
Every
person in authority in this world is subject to God, because He established
their existence in these roles (Romans 13:1), so we have no need to fear what anyone
may do to us (Psalm 118:6); we will always see the goodness of the Lord in
every aspect of our life, which builds our confidence in Him (Psalm 27:13).
