Our
soul and spirit are two different entities in our human make-up. The spirit is
dead in sin until reborn in Christ. Our soul is our thoughts, feelings and
choices and it never dies.
Our
soul and spirit successfully experience fulfillment in this life only through
our relationship with Jesus Christ and by digesting every Word that proceeds
from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).
Jesus
lived as the example of a human who spent more time ingesting the Word of God
than He did consuming natural food (John 4:32). He preferred doing the will of
God over eating.
In
the same way that eating processed food makes us sick physically, the lack of a
pure spiritual diet will make us ill spiritually (Romans 8:6).
We
will kill our self by feasting on the wrong ingredients both physically and
spiritually. We can adopt Paul's diet plan and feast only on what is pure and
righteous (Philippians 4:8).
Satan
attempts to keep us unhealthy, but he has no power or authority over us unless
we grant it to him (1 Peter 1:18-19). His only tool is deception through lies.
As
we submit to God and resist the devil, he flees. When we mature spiritually in
Christ (James 4:7), Satan's deception, temptations, influence and accusations
are weighed against the truth of God's Word and come up lacking every time.
Prayer:
Father
God, at salvation the free gift of Your Spirit abides in us, and we no longer
walk in the flesh; yet, if we make sin our lifestyle, this is proof that Your
Holy Spirit does not dwell in us and we are not Born Again (Romans 5:15-25,
8:9).
Your
mercy and righteousness are always available to wash us in regeneration and to renew
Your Holy Spirit within us (Titus 3:5-6). You seal us in Christ with the Holy
Spirit that You promised to send once Jesus resurrected into Heaven (Ephesians
1:13). You dwell within us and lead us each moment of the Day.
Thought
for the Day:
When
we focus our physical and spiritual eyes on Jesus, the initiator and perfecter
of our faith, He enables us to take captive every thought that is not of Him
and we are set free from Satan's influence and the flesh's desire to sin.
