Have you ever come up against a stop sign or red
light? Of course you have…we all have. They can be irritating when we are in a
hurry, but they can also save our life.
By accident, I ran a red light once and ended up
in the hospital. I had 11 broken ribs, a broken little finger, half a face full
of glass, a punctured lung and a concussion.
My mind was driving in auto-pilot while I was
thinking of other things, and I drove right through a red light; ending up
t-boned by a large van.
God gives us stop signs along life's course, not
to detain or irritate us, but to keep us safe and unharmed. They are for our
spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, financial, etc. security.
God is not some cosmic killjoy; even though our
society would have us to think that He is. He did not create a bunch of rules
to hinder us, but to protect us from the destructive aspects in this world.
Prayer:
Father God, when we are not paying attention, You
see the headlights of the oncoming trial, the dangerous intersection, the
traffic jam up ahead; and You protect us from danger.
You also set up certain stop signs, so we have the
time to consider Your wisdom along the road of life. Remind us to simply
surrender to Your direction each moment of the day (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Thought for the Day:
When we see God's stop signs, rather than plowing
through them regardless of the danger, we can take a moment to reflect on His
wisdom, listen to His voice and obey the prompting of His Holy Spirit.
