Freedom from Within

Trauma in our life often cools our fervor to serve the Lord. We are so focused on relieving our pain that we forget that He knows what we are enduring. At times, our suffering is residual from our past.

If we do not embrace the person we were in our childhood, teen years and young adult years, we are leaving part of our self behind in the past. These little splinters get infected as new trauma invades our life and escalates our negative feelings.

When we criticize, shame or judge our self, we are believing Satan's lies and aiding his cause to make us useless for the kingdom of God. Once we come to Jesus for salvation, our sins are forgiven, and we have no more condemnation (Romans 8:1-2).

The first step in recovery is to stop blaming our self for our past. We can detach from our past by hearing God's Truth about the incident, rather than repress our connection to it. This will free us from the albatross hanging around our neck.

Realizing that we did our best, and cannot expect our self to do better than our best, will help us to forgive our self. This helps us to love and accept our self both now and in the past (Mark 12:30-31).

By talking about, or journaling our negative feelings from the past, as well as our current issues, we can take our pain to God and receive His healing and fulfillment.

We learn to unconditionally embrace our soul - our thoughts, choices and feelings - as God does. He helps us to forgive and nurture our self through His Agape love.

Prayer:
Father God, help us to take responsibility for our words and actions without condemning our self (Romans 8:1-2). You do not want us to fall as a victim to the accusing words in our head, spoken by the devil and our former caretakers. You want us to allow You to help us to dispel Satan's lies and to walk in the freedom of Your Truth.

Remind us that this is how we love our self and open up our life to express compassion, mercy, humility and care for our self and others. Then You can use us as a vessel of Your love in this sin-cursed and painful world. We want to spread You mercy and truth to anyone who will take the time to listen.

Thought for the Day:
The way to recover from our trauma is to stop blaming our self for the negative circumstances we experience; so that we can heal as we detach from our past rather than to repress our connection to it.
