Memories
are either positive or negative. They sometime evoke unwanted thoughts and
feelings in our soul. Some of them are complicated and multi-faceted, and we
experience the trauma all over again. God peals back the memories of our past
to heal us.
We
often repress or dissociate from our memories. Trying to forget the trauma
related to them, we think that we can just get on with life in spite of them.
Facing the past with courage and wisdom from God is the best way to deal with
the reoccurring drama they cause in our current life. ( www.transformationprayer.org

To
heal little by little, we simply get in a quiet place with a pen and notebook.
We focus on the negative emotion we currently feel, and ask God to reveal to us
the root cause of it. We allow the emotion to envelop us, and we look for any
thoughts associated with it.
We
do not rush this experience, but we pay attention to any memories this emotion
and those words invoke. We jot them down in our notebook for future reference.
Having a prayer partner present to take notes is also very helpful and adds
prayer power.
Sitting quietly, still and open before the
Lord allows details of these memories to surface. We notice how they make us
feel, and we hear the thoughts in our mind that relate to the feelings they
raise. We ask God to speak His truth to us about what happened.
This process allows us to heal, to reset our
nervous system, and to give our body, soul and spirit a new path to take that
relieves prior stress that was related to these negative experiences. God sets
us free by His truth about the memory or the feelings associated with it.
God's healing power infiltrates our whole
body, soul and spirit and releases us from our bondage to the past. Thinking
about this memory no longer causes anxiety or negative emotions. It is merely
an event in our past that God walked through with us.
Prayer:
Father God, remind us that repressing or
dissociating from our past will negatively affect our body, soul and spirit.
Just because they are not in our conscious thoughts, these events are still
stirring our emotions and thoughts in our subconscious mind. Help us to find
outlets to ground our self in our present reality, so we can resist the panic
caused by them until You set us free from them.
We do not want to survive by running from and
ignoring painful memories, or arguing with our self and others needlessly, or
pushing people away or wounding them when they inadvertently trigger our
negative emotions connected with these memories. Thank You for bringing balance
back into our life by Your generous, unconditional love now and always, as well as enabling us to rise up on Your wings like eagles.
Thought for the Day:
The recovery process from wounds in our past
takes planning quiet times with the Lord; entering into His rest in order to
relax into our memories, which helps us to detox from the poisons the
associated thoughts emit into our body, soul and spirit; and also refusing to
criticize our self, but affirming our pain and seeking God's wisdom in order to
heal from it.
