A Good Marriage - A Supportive Home for Everyone

Yellow Petaled Flowering Plant

We are never lonely, if we have the Trinity of God abiding within us, surrounding us, intimately communicating with us, caring about our needs, and opening doors for us. God cares about every aspect of our life, and is involved in all that we think, say, and do (Psalm 68:6; Genesis 2:18).

Marriage is honorable in the sight of the Lord (Hebrews 13:4). God created the institution of marriage to alleviate Adam’s loneliness by creating a best friend and loving mate for him (Psalm 113:9, 128:3-4). Another reason He instituted marriage was so that parents can impart spiritual truth to their children (Ephesians 6:1-4; Deuteronomy 6:7-8).

We cannot control our adult children’s decisions, but we can give them a strong spiritual foundation – even if they eventually reject God’s truth. As parents we share with our children what God means to us, and what He does in our personal life. They also see God’s love through the union of their parents.

Since we are both finite human beings, however, we may experience frustration, disappointments and unfulfilled expectations in our marriage. However, if we focus on the good qualities and strengths of each other, we never fall out of love with one another.

Our home is a place for social interaction with those who care about us, provides a springboard for fruitful activities, and trains us to prefer others above our self without neglecting our self in the process. A good marriage also gives children a launching place into adulthood, and the life-long security and blessings of a home full of unity and safety.

Discovering new visions, needs, and expectations while sharing them in our family dynamic allows us to experience diverse activities, habits, and thinking. This permits us to grow personally, as a family unit, and as citizens in our community. Scheduling these new adventures into our calendar makes them more likely to occur.

Prayer:

Father God, we thank You for providing our family to keep us sheltered in this stressful world in which we live. We pray for orphans, those in foster care, families who choose to adopt children, as well as those who lose part of their family through death, divorce, or abandonment. Teach us to have compassion on everyone You bring our way, so that we can help others as Your Holy Spirit helps us (Luke 22:32).

You put the solitary in homes through Your church family, so help us to find a loving body of authentic Believers who allow us to experience Your agape love, as well as a place for us to share Your love with others (Psalm 68:6). As we participate in community activities as a family, remind us to make these events a priority in supporting and encouraging one another’s strengths and achievements.

Thought for the Day:

Even if we, as a couple, go through times in adulthood of diverse interests, worldview, vocational expectations, and personal preferences, planning meaningful activities for us and as a family invites intimacy that can last a lifetime; and putting Christ in the center of our focus ensures that family bonds are deep, lasting, and secure.
