God’s Holy Spirit within us is our guarantee of our eternal destiny (2 Corinthians 1:22). He is also our comforter and our guide through each moment of every day (John 14:26). So many people make choices based on their human understanding – many are also altruistically attempting to please God with their efforts.
Yet, we grieve the Holy Spirit by ignoring His promptings or warnings and by our lack of obedience to God’s perfect plans for our life (Ephesians 2:10). We end up with regrets, suffering loss, and reaping for years what we sow in a very short span of time.
As we stay in tune with God’s Spirit each moment, He is quick to guide us by removing His peace when we are about to stray from God’s best for us. If we push through the lack of peace within us, and insist on doing things our own way, we usually miss God’s will for us by inches and even miles or moments.
We ruin the outcome of our own plans, offend those we love, spin our wheels, exert needless energy, and even thwart God’s purposes – although He knew, before we were born, how we would react and has contingency plans prepared for us.
One tool we can use to prevent this self-exerted suffering is to pray the moment that we lose His peace, and to continue to pray until God’s Spirit has influence over our choices instead of us. Then, His peace floods our heart again with a calm and settled assurance.
All He wants us to do is to enter His rest and to consult Him and trust Him in all of our thoughts, words and actions (Proverbs 3:5-6). Living in the center of God’s will is our most productive times, successful times, and fruitful times in our place in the Kingdom of God.
When we walk in the Spirit, we do not fulfill the lusts of our flesh or dance to the tune of the devil’s drums (Galatians 5:15-25). God cares for us just like He does the lilies and the sparrows (Luke 12:27-40). He does not want us to take care of our own needs apart from His direction, because our Father always knows what is best for us.
Prayer:
Father God, thank You for teaching us to rely on You for all our moments in time. The more we practice waiting on Your presence within us, the closer we stay to Your perfect plans for each of us individually and corporately as Your Body. We find peace, joy, fulfillment and love in the very center of Your will.
In our church family, we are all grieving the loss of one of our young men whom You took home to be with You before we were able to fully reap the blessings of His life; but the memory of his life will always inspire us all. We pray Your hand of protection on the young people in our church Body and we thank You for the time that we do have them in our life.
Thought for the Day:
God did not place us on earth to make us figure things out for our self; in fact, He delights in blessing His Saints every single moment of our day as He plans miracles to bless us, divine appointments to use us, and the safety of His straight and narrow way through life to protect us.
- Psalm 35:27, 37:28; Matthew 7:13-14
