God of Comfort and Joy

 White Clouds

We all go through hard times when life kicks us in the stomach, and we can barely breathe. There are many Bible verses that bring comfort in our trouble, and we cling to them because they are righteous and true. Jesus is always our rock, fortress, and deliverer in whom we can take refuge.

He never leaves us destitute, but always has plans for us as we keep our eyes focused on Him and take shelter in His presence within us (Psalm 141:8). As we put our trust in Him, He is our safety in times of grief, sorrow, oppression, and trouble. We soon experience His joy that comes to us once our tears cleanse us of the intensity of our grief (Psalm 30:5).

He is such a comfort to us that we burst into songs of praise to Him and tell others what He does for us (Psalm 9:9-11). He is our shield and the horn of our salvation, our stronghold (Psalm 18:2). He hides us in the secret place of His tabernacle, and He sets our feet on a high Rock (Jesus is our Rock) so grief does not overwhelm us (Psalm 27:5).

God’s Word promises that our God walks with us through the valleys of life, and we have no need to fear evil, because of His divine presence within and with every authentic Born Again Believer (Psalm 46:1-2). When we stray from the safety of the protection of His narrow path, even His discipline is a comfort (Psalm 23:4).

At times, our soul – our thoughts and emotions – is discouraged, and hopelessness threatens to overwhelm us (Psalm 62:1-2). However, we can hope in God for He plants His hope in our heart (Psalm 42:5-6). Even when we are too ill or grief stricken to get out of our bed, He sustains us and abides in us to comfort us (Psalm 41:3).

Our soul waits silently for God alone, and we expect nothing from anyone but Him. He is our rock of strength, our strong defense, our refuge at all times, and our salvation. Therefore, we shall never be moved as we trust in Him and pour out our heart to Him (Psalm 62:5-8). Our body and soul may fail us, but He is the strength of our heart and our provision forever (Psalm 73:26).

Prayer:

Father God thank You that we can call on You in times of trouble and You deliver us through each one. We glorify You as our comfort and our shield (Psalm 50:15). If we attempt to carry our grief by our self, we are weary and weak; however, if we share our burdens with You, You sustain us and never allow us to be shaken (Psalm 55:22). We put our trust in You, and we do not fear what circumstances will do to us (Psalm 56:11). You surround us with Your comfort (Psalm 71:21).

You care for us so deeply that You keep all our tears in Your bottle and write the cause of them down in Your book. You cause our enemies to draw back from us because You are our Protector and Provider (Psalm 56:8-10). You revive us in the most horrific and severe trials that we experience, and we know that You will eventually even bring our body out of the grave as an immortal being (Psalm 71:20; 1 Corinthians 15:53-55).

Thoughts for the Day:

When we seek the Lord, He hears us and delivers us from all our concerns. He saves us from our troubles because He is good. We can trust in Him while we walk in the steps that He ordained for us, because He sends His angels to camp all around us to protect us, anf He delivers us through every circumstance that life can ever throw at us. He delights in our trust in Him, and though we falter, He protects us and upholds us in His hand through all our times of grief and trial.

- Psalm 34:4-8, 19; 37:23-24; 73:28; 94:18-19
