God's Rest is Best - Part One

Here’s a Practical Way You Can Learn to Remain in God’s Rest

It is so easy to obey God. As the Holy Spirit sanctifies us - makes us holy, we no longer have our own desires, but we concentrate on His plans for each moment of our day.

God writes His laws upon our heart (Jeremiah 31:33; Romans 2:15). There is no need to memorize His laws, or make a list and keep every jot and tittle of it. We simply pray without ceasing and follow the Spirit's guidance each minute of our time on this earth.

God mentioned that if we really love Him, then we will obey Him (1 John 2:3, 5:3). This is such a simple and wise request, because we avoid so many trials and ultimate destruction by keeping His precepts, rather than following our own human reasoning (Luke 10:41-42).

As authentic Believers, through faith in Jesus, we are also children of our Father God (Galatians 3:26), the bride of Christ (Isaiah 54:5), His church (Ephesians 5:27), His body (1 Corinthians 12:27) and bond servants to His wishes (Romans 1:1).

As we walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:15-35), we enter God's Rest (Hebrews 4:3, 10; Psalm 62:1). We say good-bye to anxiety, worry, stress, deprivation, brokenness, etc., and we say hello to God's fulfillment through His will and way for each of us (Psalm 4:4).

When we pray without ceasing each moment of the day (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18), we consult the Lord for His direction, wisdom and strength (Proverbs 3:5-6). We relax as if we are swaying comfortably in a hammock.

We still the whirl of the thoughts in our mind that threaten to overwhelm us, and we listen quietly for the direction of God's Holy Spirit (Psalm 46:10; Habakkuk 2:20; 1 Kings 19:12; Exodus 14:14).

We focus on the next assignment that we have from our Maker.  We live as if we are tubing down a river, floating in the safety of the arms of God, as the Lord's current moves us along to His destination for each moment of our day.

Prayer:
Father God, Your peace and joy fill every fiber of our body, soul and spirit, and we totally surrender every thought, plan and goal of our own to You (Psalm 62:5, 131:1-2). We consider Your wonders and Your blessings to us, and our heart fills with gratitude too momentous for mere words (Job 37:14). We do not need to fight our battles alone, if we stand firm in hope and we wait on Your guidance (2 Chronicles 20:17; Exodus 14:13).

We have needs in our human body and soul, and You encourage us to bring our requests to You with faith in Your faithfulness (Psalm 5:3; Philippians 4:6). Our whole being waits silently for Your direction, with hope and assurance in Your wise counsel (Psalm 130:5; Habakkuk 2:1). You alone are God over every nation of the earth, and we look to You for Your guidance for us during each moment of every day (Isaiah 37:16).

Thought for the Day:
If our thoughts, plans and desires intrude on our rest in God, we simply write them down in our journal to pray about or to consider at another time; otherwise we gain strength and encouragement as we wait on the Lord and enter into His rest.
- Psalm 27:14; Isaiah 40:31; Hebrews 4:2-3
