A Good Marriage – Understanding One Another

Orange Rose Flower in Bloom during Daytime

Fully embracing God’s plans for our life, both individually and as a couple, puts us in the center of His will for us – the happiest place on earth. Seeking God together is one of the most unifying habits we can develop. Reading and meditating on God’s Word, individually and together, also strengthens each of us in body, soul, and spirit.

When issues arise between us, we can jointly sit quietly and wait on the Lord, seeking His desires to resolve these matters (Song of Solomon 2:1 5). Ignoring them, “sweeping them under the rug” in hopes that they will just go away, or arguing about them never reaps positive rewards, but just “muddies the water” between us.

When we are surrounded by ill feelings, darkness, and discord, we cannot see positively to resolve these problems. Taking stress-free times to discuss concerns that cause friction between us, and then resolving them together by choosing a third option we can both agree on - rather than insisting on our own way, will keep peace flowing in our relationship.

Understanding each other’s motives, showing compassion for one another’s weaknesses, appreciating each other’s strengths, and trusting God to meld us as one flesh will improve our marriage and increase the longevity of our union. Quickly forgiving each other is the best habit for keeping love alive, just as Christ forgives us (Ephesians 4:32).

Love never keeps a record of wrongs, but swiftly forgives indiscretions, slights, broken promises, and neglect. Satan wants us to major on minor points, hold grudges, and feel negative thoughts and feelings with one another, but these are nails he provides for the death of our marriage.

Prayer:

Father God, thank You for caring about us individually, as a couple, and as a family. Your Spirit’s guidance for us in each moment of the day helps us to resolve negative thoughts and emotions, strengthen our union, forgive offences and thoughtlessness, and build up our commitment to love one another as Christ loves His Bride and as You love Your children.

Help us not to dispel our frustrations from our day on our spouse and family when we come home from work. Heal our memories so we do not carry their negativity into our present moments. Remind us to prefer one another and to love each other as we love our self (Romans 12:10-21; Mark 22:39). Help us to heal from satanic lies that prevent us from loving our self and others. Thank You for leading us in Your everlasting way today and always.

Thoughts for the Day:

No other book, counselor, or medication can heal us the way reading God’s Bible can deliver us. God’s Word is powerful, exact, and able to separate our carnality from our spirituality. It settles our doubts and fears and increases our feeling of peace and security and unity with God’s Spirit each moment of our day.
