As Our Soul Prospers

White Clouds

There appears to be a connection between the health of our soul – our thoughts, emotions, and choices – and our body’s health. God’s Word declares that we prosper even as our soul prospers (3 John 1:2). We are all wounded from past experiences to one degree or another.

Healing in our soul and spirit will make our physical health more of a reality. As the Shepherd of our soul, God renews, restores, and redeems us through His Salvation and Sanctification process (1 Peter 2:24-25). This does not occur because of our righteous deeds, but simply because of His mercy and grace through Jesus’ sacrifice on Calvary’s cross (Ephesians 2:8-9).

God view of death is that it is more of a time of celebration than the day of our birth (Ecclesiastes 7:1). He delights in His children fellowshipping around the throne, even more than He enjoys His intimate fellowship within us during our lifetime on this earth. He sheds His peace abroad in our heart, and we find freedom from the stress of life (Romans 5:5).

The power of Christ’s resurrection changes us from one stage of glory to the next through His Spirit within us (2 Corinthians 3:18). We gradually change from carnal, fleshly babes in Christ to mature, spiritually minded beings. As our Creator, Heavenly Father, Great Physician (Exodus 15:26), Savior, etc. God’s goodness is new for us each and every day (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Due to His compassion on the crowds, Jesus healed those who came to Him (Matthew 14:14; Psalm 6:2). By His Word, He also saves us from trouble and from our distresses and discouragement, even snatching some from death’s door (Psalm 107:19-20). He nurses us and restores us back to health (Psalm 41:3).

Prayer:

Father God, thank You for physically healing us when we are sick and making us well even as our soul prospers (3 John 1:1-2). We are so grateful that Jesus paid our sin debt, and that You forgive our sins as we forgive others who violate us (Matthew 6:14-15; James 5:15). We simply need to stay in touch with You to receive Your forgiveness and healing (Matthew 14:36).

Thank You for giving us back our health and healing our emotional and physical wounds (Jeremiah 30:17). If You decide to use sickness to discipline us, we realize it is for our good, and that You will eventually restore our health and allow us to live in this life and in eternity with You (Isaiah 38:5-8). All that we are praises You, Lord, and we will always remember and give You glory for what You do for us when we sin or suffer from diseases (Psalm 103:2-3).

Thought for the Day:

Jesus was pierced for our rebellion and pride and crushed for our sins – beaten so we could be whole and whipped so we could be healed; He personally carried our sins in His own body to the cross, and now we are dead to sin, healed by His wounds, and alive to live a holy life.

- Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24
