That Will I Seek After

The Trinity of God abides within every converted Born Again Believer, and we abide in Him. We seek to dwell in His house all the days of our life (Psalm 27:4-5). I thank God that I entered His family at age 18 during a Baptist Student Union meeting on our local college campus.

Since then, my favorite times in life are when I study His Word, praise His name, and attend Bible studies and worship services. All through my years of having two sons and a daughter, I experienced His constant presence during pregnancy, morning sickness, and the birthing process.

I loved being a mommy because of all the focused attention I received from my three children. We explored our world, played games, made crafts, sang songs with my guitar as accompaniment, and even homeschooled for four years while living in an RV and traveling the eastern USA.

When we stopped traveling and bought a home in Arkansas, the children went off to school. I felt at loose ends. I cried buckets of tears, felt so alone, and questioned my purpose in life and what to do with my time now.

When we allow the pressures, loneliness, and distractions of life to monopolize our attention, we run at full speed all day and then fall into an exhausted sleep each night, without ever spending quality time with our Heavenly Father. Then, the next day our mind refills with clutter and complications, and we get pulled in too many directions at once.

During my transition time with my children, God led me to sit in the middle of our king-size bed and journal the thoughts and feelings that flooded my soul. I rested with no radio, no books, no Bible, no phone, no food, no guitar, and no fingernail polish, and waited on God.

I listed my thoughts and feelings in my journal until there was nothing left of me, and my entire focus turned to God. I am so grateful for this time because I stepped up into a new area of spiritual maturity, as well as a deepening of my unity with the Trinity of God within me.

Prayer:

Father God, never let us fail to hear Your voice as we wait on You. Obtain our undivided attention. Help us to simplify our life by getting rid of the inner clutter first, and then by ridding our home and office of everything that is unnecessary. Help us to abide in the Vine, and to allow Your Holy Spirit to lead us moment-by-moment throughout the day and night. Only our thoughts and actions, which are totally Spirit-led, will bear any fruit for Your Kingdom.

Due to the confusion of the circumstances in our life being too overpowering, we cannot hear Your voice, we lack depth in our thoughts and actions, and Your voice cannot compete with our preoccupations, nor can it penetrate our awareness. Teach us that only as we deliberately enter the recesses within our soul and conquer our cluttered thoughts and negative emotions, can we ever hope to obtain a deeper intimacy with You (Ephesians 3:16-19).

Thoughts for the Day:

A fulfilled Christian life comes only under the guidance of the Spirit of God. Achieving this status takes time, effort, and commitment. Jesus truly is a friend that sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24), a refuge in the storm (Isaiah 25:4; Psalm 46:1-2), and our comforter and guide (John 14:16-26). I would not exchange one day of my lifetime of moments with our Savior and Lord. He never leaves me and never forsakes me (Hebrews 13:5). He is all I need, want, or seek after (Colossians 3:3-4).
