God does not offer us His free gift of salvation and then
leave us in the dark. His Spirit guides and comforts us. His Word shows us what is good for us and for His
Kingdom, and what He requires of us. It is simple, really.
He asks us to do what is right, to act compassionately, to
walk humbly with Him at the core of our existence, and to love mercy. Mercy
triumphs over the deserved retribution for our unbelief, which condemns us to
hell (John 3:18; Micah 6:8).
He also spells it out for us in no uncertain terms in His ten
commandments (Deuteronomy 5:7-10). When we love Him and keep these commandments,
God showers us, as well as thousands of our future generations, with His love.
Tender mercy is the aspect of God's love that causes Him to help
us when we break His laws or are drowning in our circumstances. God’s great
mercy saved us, and allows us to approach His throne boldly to find grace in
our time of need.
We have every reason to trust in God’s mercy, which surrounds
us and follows us all the days of our lives (Psalm 23:6). He makes our paths straight
and full of forgiveness, so that we can rejoice and sing praises to His name.
God’s abundant mercy is just a call away and comes to us in
spite of the fact that we do not deserve it and never, EVER will! We will never
be worthy of His love, no matter what we do or how hard we try.
We can do nothing to earn His love and mercy; yet, nothing to
lose it either - it is ours for eternity. He freely blesses us once we repent
of our sins, and then start our journey with Him by walking in all of His ways.
He does not want anyone to perish, but for all to come to repentance (Romans
3:10-16, 23; Roman 6:23).
Prayer:
Father
God, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and
outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You. You show Your love to thousands
of our future generations. You are a great and powerful God, whose name is the
Lord Almighty. Great are Your purposes for mankind and mighty are Your deeds in
us, for us, and on the earth (Jeremiah 32:17-19).
We
pray that You will open the hearts of people everywhere to receive Your Truth,
mercy and love. Simply taking up Your yoke eases our burdens, and keeps us in
the center of Your will. As we fully trust in You, You supply all of our needs
and fill our soul with gladness (Philippians 4:19; Psalm 4:7). Help us to obey
your directives, to walk in Your Spirit, and to abide in Your ways.
Thought
for the Day:
God
cares for us as a mother nurtures her child, and He protects us as a father who
rises up to defend his family; He makes us joint heirs with Christ and children
of His eternal Kingdom. - Romans 8:17
